A 'revision bill' — a technical tidy-up that re-enacts the Valuers Act 1948 in modern, plain-language form without changing what the law actually requires. Valuers are the professionals who formally assess the value of land and property, and the 1948 Act sets up the system that registers them and handles complaints and discipline through the Valuers Registration Board. The rewrite keeps that framework intact but makes the rules easier to read and use.
A separate Amendment Paper proposed alongside the bill adds a few modernising tweaks a pure revision can't include, such as aligning the disciplinary process with the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act and other up-to-date occupational-licensing laws. Because revision bills are designed not to alter the substance of the law, this one has drawn little controversy.
